Of the many tools I’ve used during these 3 years of recovery, I exercise the mantra “First Thought; Wrong thought”. I know that my alcoholic thought process will at times infuse an impulsive self destructive directive, so I intercept these thoughts, by pausing and proceeding cautiously.

Hi Mark. We would love to hear more about the mantra (“First Thought; Wrong Thought”) that had helped you during the 3 years of your recovery. It is true that most people who does have drinking problems tend to engage in a self-destructive situation or behavior without giving much thought about their actions. This may then often lead to as self-sabotaging. I’m glad that you are able to get through your alcohol problems.

Getting through the day I find has become more a series of commitments the longer I am sober. More responsibility means taking better and better care of yourself. I find it grows harder with time and not easier…but definitely compounds the blessings!

      Hi Lee W.
Being sober is a continuous journey and not a one-time event. Time moves forward, no matter how bad your situation before. But it doesn’t mean that once you are addicted, you will forever remain in that behavior. I’m glad you realized that there are more things to celebrate and thankful for when you are sober. I think you see it now that you began comparing your past to what you are currently, happier and livelier. Hope to hear your story and inspire the readers that might come across to our blog. Take care.
